Planning on attending car restoration shows? Antique cars can be restored for any number of reasons, and presenting them at a car show is one. These events are designed to showcase a diverse array of cars with innovative features such as dual clutch transmission and automatic braking. Restoration refers to the practice of repairing, replacing, or removing parts of a vehicle so that both the interior and exterior look brand new. According to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, the restoration industry in 2014 generated roughly $1.4 billion in retail parts sales, plus another $1.3 billion for labor and installation and the sale of collector cars.
Multiple car restoration shows are scheduled to be held in Northern Virginia in 2020, but three in particular stand out because of what they will be exhibiting. Here are the top three special events:
Carz Cruizin to Cure Cancer
This event will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2020 in Sterling (Cascades), Virginia, which is also known as Potomac Falls. There will be plenty of signs to direct you to go across the lake from The Bungalow Lakehouse Restaurant. McLean Insurance organizes this annual show as a way to pay homage to its late founder, Henry C. Megill, Jr., who suffered from a rare form of lymphoma. In 2019, this event’s organizers raised $53,000 to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society cure various forms of cancer. This year, they hope to donate $75,000.
The types of cars that will be showcased at Carz Cruizin to Cure Cancer include classic, exotic, custom, sports, high-performance, and foreign vehicles. Trucks and motorcycles will also be exhibited. There will also be musical entertainment provided by DJ Mike Wilson. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle online if reserved before September 18 ($30 afterwards).
Casey’s 2020 Car Show
This event will take place on Sunday April 26 at Casey’s Automotive in Chantilly. The rain date is the following Sunday (May 3). An amazing array of cars and trucks will be displayed. Additionally, all proceeds of the show will go to Ellie’s Hats, a nonprofit organization based in South Riding that is dedicated to helping children from the Mid-Atlantic Region (Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware) affected by cancer by providing hats.
Last year, more than $8,000 was raised for this amazing organization. A 50/50 raffle will be held, and there will also be food, ice cream trucks, a bounce house, and face painting for children. Sully Historic Site Father’s Day Antique Car Show
This Father’s Day (Sunday, June 21), there’s not only going to be an annular solar eclipse, but there will also be the 47th annual Antique Car Show at Sully Historic site (plantation) in Chantilly, Virginia. Up to 400 cars are expected to be showcased on the field as part of this event, which will also feature music, food, a flea market, and a tour of the Historic house.
The admission fee is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children. Only 40 spots are available for the flea market, and the pre-registration price is $30. The organizers of this year’s show are hoping to get more vendors involved. You must attend the award show in order to receive a trophy. Last year’s show at Sully Plantation had 350 cars and 5,000 attendees, so they hope to pass this mark this year.
